Wynberg Station witnessed a tragic incident on Saturday 29 November, when a man reportedly jumped in front of an oncoming train, resulting in his death. Zino Mihi spokesperson of Prasa Western Cape confirmed the incident and said station security indicated no foul play was involved.

The agency said the matter is under investigation and assured commuters that station operations continue as normal. “Stations remain open, but caution is essential,” Mihi said.

Prasa highlighted ongoing safety campaigns aimed at educating the public. “For safety awareness, the region conducts regular rail-safety campaigns at stations, onboard trains, at schools and malls, and shares digital safety videos and alerts on social media,” Mihi added. These campaigns involve key partners, including the South African Police Service, Transnet, the Railway Safety Regulator, City of Cape Town Law Enforcement, and provincial departments.

The agency extended condolences to the family and all affected. Commuters were reminded to remain vigilant at stations and report unsafe conditions. Prasa also encouraged the public to follow safety notices and alerts online and at stations.

Rail users can access digital safety videos and updates via the Prasa website or follow their official social media channels. For emergencies or to report unsafe conditions, passengers can contact local police stations or station authorities.

Prasa emphasised that public cooperation is key to preventing accidents and ensuring rail safety. Authorities urged commuters to always stay behind safety lines, avoid trespassing on tracks, and report suspicious or unsafe behaviour.
