Facebook users are applauding a homeowner in Mission Road, Wynberg after he acted allegedly in self-defence when shooting an alleged burglar on his property dead in the early hours of Monday 27 May.
Western Cape police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg informed People’s Post that Wynberg police had registered murder and house robbery cases for investigation following the incident.
“According to reports police members attended the crime scene, where they found an unknown male with a gunshot wound to his chest. The circumstances surrounding the incident is subject of a police investigation.
”The incident happened shortly after 04:00, according to news coverage by Netwerk24. Anonymous residents who spoke to the news publication on the scene said the area had been targeted heavily in recent years by burglars breaking into properties and stealing items that are sold for drug money.
Reacting to the article shared on Facebook, many users praised the incident as an act of self-defence.
“Well done, homeowner, your safety is important,” one user commented, while another said: “I’m so proud of this homeowner. It must have taken a lot of guts to pull that trigger; he defended himself and his family only, otherwise it would have been the other way round…”
Twigg confirmed no arrests had yet been made and both cases remained subject to further investigation.
