On the morning of Friday 11 October, the learners of Wynberg Girls’ High School gathered in celebration and reflection to honour the Matric Class of 2024 at their Valedictory ceremony.

This milestone was marked by a sense of accomplishment, nostalgia and the shared memories of a five-year journey that began in January 2020.

For principal Dr Jennifer Wallace, the Class of 2024 holds a particularly special place in her heart, as she and the learners began their Wynberg journey together. “I’m still not sure who was more nervous on that first day – me or them!” she recalled with a smile. “Standing together on the astro, I clearly remember thinking that we were about to experience Wynberg side by side, discovering all it had to offer.”

In her speech, Wallace reflected on the growth and perseverance she had witnessed from this cohort over the years. “Grade 12s, over the past five years I’ve had the privilege of watching you grow, persevere and achieve so much. You have helped shape our Wynberg community.”

Among those recognised for their leadership were learner-leaders Shareefa Orrie and Hannah Hill, whose contributions left an indelible mark on the school. “Shareefa, your unwavering sense of purpose and compassion have inspired so many, while Hannah, your strength and commitment to inclusivity have left a lasting impact,” Wallace said. She expressed deep gratitude to the learner leadership team, praising their dedication to upholding the values of Wynberg Girls’ High.

The Valedictory Service was not only a celebration of academic and personal milestones but also a moment to acknowledge the legacy this Matric class leaves behind. From their contributions to the school’s culture to their embodiment of the Wynberg values, the Class of 2024 stands out for its spirit of unity and resilience.

“Thank you, Matric Class of 2024, for sharing this part of your life’s journey with us,” Wallace said. “We are proud of you and cannot wait to see where the road takes you next.” She beaming with pride as she bade farewell to the learners.
