The annual Career Expo hosted by the Woodstock Library returns next week and unemployed youth are encouraged to attend.

The expo, now in its third year, aims to empower Grade 11 to post-matric youth with information on career and study opportunities.

It will take place on Wednesday 28 May from 09:30 to 12:30.

The country’s unemployment rate increased to 32,9% in the first quarter of this year from 31,9% in the last quarter of last year.

The event offers young people a chance to explore options, connect with institutions and be inspired.

Wilmaree May, librarian at the Woodstock Library, said: “Our aim is to create awareness among youth of Woodstock about possible career paths and ultimately their future. As a library, our priority is to provide information and what better way than hosting a career expo for the youth.”

May said the expo is beneficial to anyone looking for employment opportunities.

“It will benefit anyone who is unemployed or needing a nudge in a new direction career wise.

“We have a large amount of unemployed youth in Woodstock and surrounds and this is an ideal opportunity for them to pop in and have a look at what possible career and study opportunities there may be available for them.”

According to May, various institutions will be present.

“We have invited various institutions to come and speak to the attendees, they will be having displays and will be handing out pamphlets, and we will be having a quiz with prizes donated by members of the community.

“We urge any youth who may be interested to pop in and have a look at what is on offer and take the opportunity to find out more about possible career opportunities,” she said.
