Ward committee members from Ward 82 in Tafelsig toured the ward on Wednesday 18 October to familiarise themselves with key projects currently underway.

Ward councillor Washiela Harris visited some of the projects funded by the City of Cape Town with ward allocation funding as well as community partnerships and organisations.

Kapteinsklip informal settlement has now officially been recognised by the City of Cape Town. Clean-ups have already begun in the community.

The ward committee members were joined by officials from the Subcouncil and Mayor’s office. One of their stops was legacy fencing installed at Waterval Street Park and AZ Berman Drive. This field was previously a battlefield for rival gangs.PHOTOS: Samantha Lee-Jacobs

Harris says the initiative is important for the ward committee which works in specific sectors, such as vulnerable people, early childhood development, safety and other portfolios.

The ward committee members are all community workers in various fields.

Harris took the opportunity to impart knowledge on how to properly apply for and implement community projects within the ward and in partnership with the City.

The visit included the Hives, Thusong Centre, soup kitchens, the CCTV camera in Kilimanjaro Street and Leeukop Park.
