CAPE TOWN – A firefighter sustained injuries after a wall collapsed on top of him while trying to contain a fire in Maitland on Wednesday 26 November.

During the early hours of Wednesday morning, the City of Cape Town’s fire and rescue service heard reports that a furniture factory in Maitland had caught alight.

The factory manufactures chairs and is located on the corner of First and Fourth Avenue.
Several crews including the Incident Management Team (IMT) Type 4 were dispatched to the scene.

“By 02:45, Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze that gutted the factory,” said fire and rescue spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse.

One Firefighter was injured when a wall collapsed on him.

“He was treated on scene and transported to a nearby medical facility,” he added.

The cause of this incident is still under investigation.

The City could not confirm the current state of the man’s injuries when People’s Post enquired.
