Every year, the Where Rainbows Meet Training and Development hosts a Christmas party for more than 3 000 children in Vrygrond and surrounding areas, and this year it won’t be any different as they gear up for another event.

Mymoena Sholtz, founder of Where Rainbows Meet – a non-profit organisation (NPO) that economically and socially empower men and women in Vrygrond with skills -, says they plan not to turn any child away.

“Christmas comes once a year and this is the time that we can spoil a child that does not get a chance to celebrate.

“They get a good meal, a sandwich, party packs, gifts, clothes, watermelon and whatever is donated and we also fundraise to help achieve this goal.”

She added that some children who do not attend school have never received a gift in their life.

“Some never get a gift and for us, the greatest joy is to see those beautiful smiles, the curiosity and also the excitement of which gift they can choose for themselves.”

Children from the age of three, together with their siblings are excited when they attend the Christmas party, she adds.

“Our ages start from three but it is sad that siblings come with younger siblings not to miss out.

Our aim is to bless 3 500 children and we pray that we turn no one around.

“The children enjoy this time of the year as they attend our programs every day, but this is open for all kids from Vrygrond.”

The event cannot be achieved without generous donors and fundraising events.

“We try and get as many people on board. People donate in cash and kind as we want to bless as many children as possible.”

Any contributions or gifts can be dropped off at 98 Vrygrond Avenue next to the Vrygrond library in Vrygrond.

“We thank all our generous members and partners for their continued support throughout our years. Together we are stronger.”
