Voter registration opens for Manenberg’s ward 30 by-election

Voter registration for the upcoming Ward 30 By-Election will take place this weekend, where voters are urged to register and check their relevant details.


Voter registration for the upcoming Ward 30 By-Election will take place this weekend, where voters are urged to register and check their relevant details.

The post was made vacant by the death of Ward 30 councillor Bonita Jacobs in August.

Jacobs – who represented the Democratic Alliance – was elected in the 2021 Local Government Elections and received more than 60% of the ward ballot.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is calling on voters to register on Saturday 5 or Sunday 6 October between 08:00 and 17:00 at the following voting stations:
  • Phoenix High School
  • Edendale Primary
  • Manenberg People’s Centre
  • The Downs Community Centre
  • Rio Grande Primary School
  • Salvation Army Centre Manenberg
  • Manenberg High School 
  • Manenberg Primary School

With 16 402 voters currently registered, less than half voted in the previous election.

Eligible voters must be in possession of either a green barcoded ID book, a Smartcard ID, or a valid Temporary Identity Certificate to be allowed to register. 

To find registration status online, visit www.elections.org.za or SMS your ID number to 32810 at a cost of R1 per SMS or WhatsApp Hi to our WhatsApp Chabot at 060 088 0000. 

The Proclamation of the By-Election is scheduled for Friday 11 October, and is also the opening of Candidate Nomination as well as the last day for voter registration for the By-Election.

After Registration Weekend voter registration will continue online and in person at the IEC local office during office hours until the Voters’ Roll for the By-Election closes on Friday 11 October.
