Victoria Cricket Club belied their lowly position on the Western Province Cricket Association Premier Division log when they scored a shock 53-run win over visitors Rondebosch.
Batting first, Vics were dismissed for 154 with Gareth Dreyer top-scoring with 40, with Rostill Wessels (3/16) was the most successful bowler for Rondebosch. In reply, the ‘Bosch batters paid dearly for their cavalier approach with wickets tumbling regularly. Only Grant Edmeades (25) showed any application, as they wilted against the all-pace Vics attack, spearheaded by Jordie Fourie (3/30), to be dismissed for a paltry 101.
Meanwhile, Rylands bounced back to the victory trail with a comprehensive nine-wicket win over the home side Cape Town Cricket Club (CTCC).
Batting first, CTCC were dismissed for a meagre 91. Their powerful batting lineup was no match for the Rylands attack spearheaded by medium-pacers Waseem Mukuddem (3/10) and Abdullah Bayoumy (3/34), who did most of the damage.
Rylands had no difficulty in knocking off the required runs for the loss of only one wicket with Taariq Chikte making 35*.
In the first Division, log leaders Ottomans suffered a surprise seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Milnerton. Ottomans, the visitors, were sent in to bat and were soon in trouble at 22/5, but the tail wagged effectively with Abdul Galem Ryland contributing 27 as they were dismissed for a disappointing 95.
Kyle Tomlinson (4/19) was the best of the Milnerton bowlers.
Then at Milnerton’s turn to bat, Kieran Paterson (44), piloted the home team to their target with seven wickets remaining.
