The victim-friendly room at Simon’s Town Police Station received a much-needed revamp with a fresh coat of paint and new furniture.

On Thursday 18 August, volunteers, members of the Community Policing Forum (CPF), police officials and learners from Simon’s Town High School gathered for the official opening of the revamped facility.

Lindy Rich, Simon’s Town CPF spokesperson, said the room needed a make-over.

“The room needed to be painted. Volunteers came out to help paint the walls and now there is nice new furniture.

“The room looks lovely, the paint was purchased by the CPF, and Simon’s Town community volunteers helped to paint the room. New furniture such as a table and chairs for kiddies as well as a desk and chair was purchased by police and added.”

A volunteer donated teddy bears that she crocheted to give to children who come through the victim-friendly room, she added.

Rich expressed her gratitude towards every person who assisted in revamping the facility.

“On behalf of the CPF, a huge thank you to all responsible for the revamp of the victim-friendly room. To Captain (Vishnu) Pillay and his team and the community volunteers, thank you.

“For survivors of crime and abuse, this space offers them the care and comfort so desperately needed after trauma.

“May this safe space be the start of their healing journey. Heartfelt thanks from the CPF and the community.”
