After three years of growing the movement in the Hanover Park area, Vannie Hanover Park has now branched out to include free fitness sessions at the Lansdowne Civic Centre.
Officially launched on Thursday 13 July, the sessions will be available free every Thursday between 08:00 and 09:00.
Glenn Hans, the founder of the organisation, says they approached a City of Cape Town site manager to enquire about using other City facilities for their sessions.
He then managed to assist them in booking the Thursday slot at Lansdowne Civic.
“We want to bring fitness and awareness around fitness to other areas,” says Hans. “This is very exciting news. There is a fitness club in the area, they heard about us and asked us to come out, so we agreed to be there every Thursday.”
The classes will be suitable for entry-level with a mix of upbeat and accessible workouts.
“We do upbeat Tae Bo. We also have stepping and chair workouts, aerobics and all kinds of workouts. We would like the community to come out and to be involved. It is absolutely free and we are only there for an hour. Everyone in the Lansdowne community (is) welcome,” he says.
