  • Van der Stel-Evergreens (VDE) secured a narrow 36-34 victory over Kraaifontein, earning promotion to Super League A.
  • UWC dominated Franschhoek with a 34-13 win, also advancing to the top league.
  • Both Macassar and Primrose won their Super League C semi-finals, securing spots in Super League B.

Supporters of the rugby clubs contesting the semi-finals in the different leagues of Western Province Rugby Union were treated to outstanding rugby prowess by the teams. The biggest draw card for promotion to Super League A was the clash between Van der Stel-Evergreens and Kraaifontein and it was a nail biter.

An unconverted try by Kraaifontein secured VDE promotion to Super League A next year with a 36-34 victory.

This is the third time Kraaifontein lost against VDE and they will stay in Super League B next year.

In the other semi-final, UWC was in action against VDE neighbours, Franschhoek, but the students piled on the points in the second half for a resounding 34-13 victory.

UWC and VDE have both been promoted to Super League A after winning their semi-finals.

The battle between Macassar and Atlantis in Super League C for promotion to Super League B was won by Macassar 30-17.

Meanwhile, Primrose was too good for Goodwood and kept them in Super League C by beating them 24-13.

Macassar and Primrose will be in action in Super League B next year.

In Super League A, Hamiltons showed why they were log leaders for most of the season when they dispatched Kabamba Floors’ side by 33-19.

In the other semi-final Durbell had to dig deep to keep a rampant UniMil at bay to win 22-19.

The finals to determine who are the respective winners of Super League A, B and C will be played on Saturday 14 September again at City Park.

The losers of the semis in the different leagues play against each other to determine who will be the third team progressing to the next league and they will have to play the team in position 13 on the log to determine who is promoted or elegated.

In Super League A, Hamiltons will contest the league title against Durbell, in Super League B, UWC and VDE will fight it out and in Super League C Macassar will be in action against Primrose.
