CAPE TOWN – Two construction workers were extricated and taken to hospital following a trench collapse at an infrastructure repair project at the V&A Waterfront on Friday, 23 January.
V&A Waterfront spokesperson Donald Kau said the incident involved two workers who became trapped during the collapse.
“The workers were trapped but saved by the protection shoring that is part of the trench in which they were working.”
Kau confirmed that both workers have been rescued and are receiving medical treatment.
Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness Emergency Medical Services (EMS) spokesperson Shimoney Regter said emergency crews responded to the scene and were assisted by specialised rescue partners, including the police, during the operation.
“The two patients were extricated and transported to hospital by private emergency medical services,” she said.
