In a heartwarming holiday tradition, the Tokai Lions Club has joined hands with Safripol for the second year to make the holidays brighter for children in need.

The Safripol Toy Campaign, supported by local donations and community spirit, collects pre-loved toys to bring joy to children who might not otherwise receive a gift this season. The initiative is about more than just presents – it’s about nurturing a sense of belonging and giving back to the community.

Excitement

“Each year, we see the excitement on these children’s faces as they join us for a day that’s all about them,” shares Jules Flanagan of the Tokai Lions Club. “The Safripol Toy Campaign has been such a blessing, enabling us to give each child a beautifully upcycled toy from Santa himself. For many, it’s not just a toy; it’s a reminder that someone cares.”

The annual Christmas Party, to be held on Saturday 7 December, gathers 75 children from orphanages, care homes, and safe houses across the region. It’s a day filled with activities, treats, and plenty of holiday magic, including face painting, magicians and live music. “We have Santa arriving on a motorbike, with his reindeer ‘resting’ in Tokai Forest for the day,” Flanagan explains with a smile. “The children absolutely love it, and every year we try to make it even more special.”

Through their collaboration with Safripol and the support of local community, the Tokai Lions have been able to extend this joy beyond just one day. With collection points at Blue Route Mall, the Safripol Toy Campaign is encouraging residents to donate pre-loved toys until Wednesday 15 January next year, reducing waste while giving these items a renewed purpose.

Memories

The drive started on Friday 1 November.

“This isn’t just about toys – it’s about hope and creating lasting memories,” says Flanagan. “Every donation is a gift that says ‘You matter’. These toys become cherished treasures for children who often go without.”

Throughout the day breakfast, lunch and special treats, like doughnuts will be provided, ensuring the children are celebrated and well cared for.

“We couldn’t do this without our community’s support,” Flanagan acknowledges. “From the toys to the food, every contribution makes a difference. The collaboration with Safripol has helped us reach more children, and it’s wonderful to see our community step up to spread joy.”

For Flanagan and the Tokai Lions, this initiative also carries a deeper message of sustainability. “By reusing these toys, we’re teaching the children about caring for the planet and for each other,” she explains. “It’s a small action with a big impact, showing that giving back can benefit both people and the planet.”
