A tongue-in-cheek notice, asking for any information about a stolen yellow-and-black rickshaw, is making the rounds on social media.
In it, the owner, Lew Norgarb, asks for residents to help “bring our baby home safely”.
“Great with kids, loves family gatherings. Her twin, Norgarb2, is devastated,” the notice reads.
The two branded rickshaws are often seen at community events, giving free rides to children.
They were again set to do so on Sunday 30 October at the Halloween Trick or Treat event held at Hampstead Park. But only one made it there.
The other was stolen from Norgarb’s locked garage in Harfield Village on Friday 28 October.
An eyewitness last spotted the rather bulky three-wheeled rickshaw making its slow escape on the M5 in the direction of Grassy Park.
Since then, the trail has gone cold.
Norgarb says, while furious about the theft, he can’t help but laugh at the sheer audacity of the thief.
“I mean how does someone steal a heavily branded, totally unique, highly conspicuous, incredibly slow and physically exhausting to ride rickshaw in broad daylight (06:10 on Friday morning) and actually (so far) get away with it?”
Claremont Police Station has confirmed that an investigation into the theft is underway.
Anyone who spots the not so clandestine vehicle is asked to call the police station on 021 657 2250.
