A teenager has been arrested in connection with the murder of Marina da Gama magistrate Romay Van Rooyen

The 50-year-old’s lifeless body was found by family members at her home on Saturday 10 September

According to Col Katlego Mogale, spokesperson for the Hawks’ directorate for priority crime investigation (Hawks), the suspect was arrested in Mitchell’s Plain today (Tuesday 27 September). 

“The 18-year-old suspect who has been linked to the murder of a Vredenburg Magistrate will be appearing in the Muizenberg Magistrates court on Thursday, 29 September following his arrest today. 

“The suspect was traced and arrested at his home in Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town in a multi-disciplinary operation comprising of the Hawks’ crimes against the State, national priority violent crime investigation, digital forensic investigation and priority crime management centre.” 

Van Rooyen, who lived in Marina Da Gama, was a magistrate at the Vredenburg Magistrates Court at the time of her death.
