The members of the School Governing Body (SGB) at Portlands High School surprised the teachers and staff on Wednesday 21 September with special treats.
“We all know how hard teachers work during the year to help our children and seeing that Teacher’s Day fell during the September school holidays, on Wednesday 5 October, we decided to treat them the day before the school closed for the third term,” says Farieda Moses, a member of the SGB.
The SGB decided on the wellness day as they wanted the teachers and staff to have a relaxing day.
“Most of the teachers were marking or getting the reports of the learners ready to hand out on Friday 23 September. The wellness day was our way of saying to them, despite all the challenges they face every day, they also need to look after their health,” she says.
The teachers were entertained in the school hall with a Zumba fitness class and after being pampered, they had light snacks.
Nurses from the YMCA tested them for diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol etc, and students from Northlink College gave the massage.
