Mark Kleinschmidt, councillor for Ward 60, addressing the 25 teachers at the workshop at the Jumpstart Pre-School in Wetton. With him is Aziza Ebrahim, principal and facilitator, and Norma Aloile from the ECD department at the City of Cape Town, who requested the workshop.

Approximately 25 Early Childhood Development centres (ECD) teachers attended a workshop on Saturday 17 September.

The training was organised by the City of Cape Town’s ECD department at the Jumpstart Pre-School in Wetton.

Norma Aloile, from the City, approached Aziza Ebrahim, a former primary school teacher and principal of Jumpstart, to facilitate the teachers and principals at her centre.

“The workshop was requested by the City so that ECD centres across our City provide a quality programme in their centres. Mark Kleinschmidt, councillor for Ward 60, popped in to give words of inspiration and thanks to the teachers present,” says Aloile.

She orchestrated the workshop for ECD practitioners who need upskilling in their sector.

“Our vision is to see that every child becomes school ready. I approached Ebrahim who is also a facilitator at Northlink College and she willingly offered her assistance. Besides the 25 teachers, three principals attended the workshop, as well as the ECD Forum chairperson. The feedback was overwhelming, with further sessions planned, so that every child has a good solid foundation on entering primary schools. In Kleinschmidt’s message he not only thanked the teachers for their sacrifices but also encouraged continuous learning,” Aloile says.
