What started as a night out between a man and woman in Wynberg on Saturday 2 September turned into a search currently led by local police officials on the hunt for an alleged rape suspect.
People’s Post was informed by Western Cape police spokesperson WO Joseph Swartbooi that the Wynberg family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit (FCS) needs the public’s help to trace the person depicted in the photo (otherwise known as ID-Kit) “who is wanted in connection with a rape case”.
Swartbooi pointed to a preliminary investigation revealing that the victim and the suspect “spent time together using alcohol and drugs” on the date in question.
“The duo left for an address in Ottery Road, Wynberg, where he raped her. The suspect is believed to be a medium-built Malawian foreign national. On the day of the incident, he was dressed in jeans, a T-shirt and a denim jacket,” Swartbooi added.
On further enquiry, Swartbooi told People’s Post on Friday 6 October that the investigating officer was pursuing all available leads to trace the suspect.
Answering to questions surrounding the circumstances of the event, he added that “the chronological flow of events and details on the mentioned date will unfortunately not be discussed on an open platform”.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call the investigating officer detective Sgt Sithembile Nxanxashe at 082 334 8348 or alternatively call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
