Routine road maintenance by the City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has commenced along several routes in the Belthorn Estate and Rondebosch East areas.
The project, which costs around R3,66 million, began earlier this month and will be completed by March, pending inclement weather and other unforeseen delays.
The following streets are affected:
- Central Avenue from Belgravia Road to Conquest Road
- Kinder Road from Belgravia Road to Central Avenue
- Toeskouer Way from Central Avenue to Kinder Road
- 6th Avenue from Kromboom to Melbourne road
- 5th Avenue from Kromboom to Perth road.
The work set out for this project will run in all streets concurrently.
Work will include road markings repainted, kerbs and channels realignment and/or replaced and general pavement maintenance.
Rob Quintas, Mayco member for urban mobility, says milling of the existing surface will give way to new asphalt.
Work is scheduled to take place on weekdays only, between 07:00 and 17:30.
“We ask that the community please cooperate with our team on the ground while the project is ongoing. We would like to resurface these portions of the road to provide residents in the area with a safe and smooth road surface. We have measures in place to help direct residents during the construction period and we urge all road users to please comply,” says Quintas in a statement.
