A family is desperately searching for their missing daughters who disappeared on Friday 27 May. They were last seen at the Muizenberg Library

Sisters Vanessa “Kinelley” and Kimberly Mubaiwa were reportedly working on a school project at the library.

According to their father Douglas Mubaiwa, the duo was seen leaving the library before closing time at 14:00. “They wanted to do a project for school. Kimberley is the eldest and the younger sister is Vanessa. We went to the library and the librarian said that they (the sisters) arrived, then left just before 14:00 because on Fridays the library closes at 14:00.”

The sisters reportedly left towards Muizenberg High School where witnesses claimed they got a lift from a woman in a white Honda.

“When they arrived at Muizenberg High they were apparently approached by a woman in a white Honda offering a lift from Muizenberg High and they said no, because they live in Capricorn and wanted to be dropped at KFC in Capricorn,” said the father, quoting a witness.

However, the lead came to a dead end when CCTV footage showed that it was not the pair that got into the vehicle.

“We checked the video footage at KFC and saw that it was not our children who were in the car. From there we reached out again to the library, but the police are taking long.

“We are trying to search again from the library, to see where they went from there. We don’t know where they are now and what is happening to them. It’s now a week since last week Friday, but we are still searching.”

Muizenberg Police Station commander Col Vassie Naidoo confirmed that a missing person’s case has been opened.

“A missing person’s enquiry has been opened at Muizenberg police and is currently under investigation. No new information has been received as yet and we are pleading with anyone who might have information regarding the girls’ whereabouts to contact detective Sgt Zazini on 082 522 2797/ 021 787 900.”
