A shooting incident at the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning has left residents alarmed and raised renewed concerns about safety at public institutions.
According to reports, shots were fired inside the court, with early suggestions pointing to a possible retaliation attack. It is alleged that a state witness was shot during the incident. Law enforcement responded swiftly, and an emergency team rushed to the scene. A code blue was reportedly declared as part of the emergency response.
The Community Response Team worked closely with police to stabilise the situation. Authorities have urged residents in the Wynberg area to remain cautious and vigilant, and to report any suspicious behaviour without delay.
The City of Cape Town confirmed that the Wynberg Municipal Court, which is located within the same complex, has been closed until further notice.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” said the City in a brief statement.
Residents can still pay traffic fines at Spar shops, online via www.paythat.co.za, or at other municipal courts across the city.
Police have launched a full investigation into the shooting. Further details are expected as the case develops.
