With the winter chill fully setting in, non-profit organisation Love and Hope are calling on locals to extend their help to those in need.

The organisation, founded last year by husband and wife team Lauren and Marco Pekeur, have started a blanket drive as part of their outreach initiatives.

“There is no specific focus area, as poverty is all over. We go where the need is greater at the time, but we aim to reach as many areas as possible far and wide and right here at home,” says Lauren.

“We started this blanket drive at the beginning of July, because even though I lay in my warm, cosy bed under three blankets, I still freeze up. So, what about those on the streets? What about those who only have one thin blanket? What about those who were affected by the floods recently? That is when we decided to help warm hearts by collecting as many blankets as possible.”

The organisation hosted a gift drive among their outreach initiatives.

Working in the medical field as a paramedic for 16 years, alongside policeman Marco, serving is in their nature. The Beacon Valley-based couple aim to develop and strengthen communities by providing essential resources to those in need, reaching underprivileged families across the metro.

They have run sanitary pad drives, stationery and food drives in the past, with this being their first blanket drive.

Drop-off points are available in Portlands and Beacon Valley. Collections can also be arranged.
