A group of seniors in the Kewtown area have completed a self-esteem building workshop to help them feel included.

Margo January of Sharehope facilitated the two-day course, which is the brainchild of the Kewtown Women’s Circle.

“The need for community healing and weaving the various NGOs together, an all-inclusive session was envisioned by Cecilia Alcock and Norma Medell from the Kewtown Women’s Circle and they invited me, the seniors from Blossom Seniors and members from the broader community to attend the training,” says January.

The seniors were given an open invitation via their club and an open invitation was sent out to individuals in the community via WhatsApp and phone calls.

“The Seniors are sometimes excluded from training as most of the training in our country is aimed at people 18 to 35 years old,” says January.

Alcock says the workshop created a motivation of hope and readiness for the seniors to face their challenges in their families with new hope and courage.

She further says no senior should feel that they are alone.

The workshop, which concluded on Thursday 5 October at BABS Hall, included a session on truth-telling – where most of what goes through your mind can be identified as true or false and tools of forgiveness.

“With these new insights, we could then plan how we shall take action and by when to bring about a change in the relationship with ourselves and the healing in our relationship with others and our broader community,” says January.
