A woman was seriously injured in a house fire in Protea Village, Brackenfell on Friday afternoon (21 August).

This marks the second house fire in the area within two weeks. The first incident, which occurred on Gladiolus Street, tragically claimed the life of a 41-year old woman on Sunday 17 August.

The latest fire broke out some time after 15:00 in Witteboom Street. Emergency services, including an ambulance and fire engine, arrived on the scene at the same time around 15:40.

“When we arrived, the first fire truck stopped in front of the house. We found the woman lying on the grass in the backyard. She had sustained burn wounds. We stabilised her on scene and transported her to Tygerberg Hospital,” said Kobus Kotze, spokesperson for Titanium Ambulance Services. “I’m not sure whether she managed to escape on her own or was rescued by neighbours.”

TygerBurger has reached out to the City’s fire and rescue services as well as Brackenfell police for comment. Responses will be added to the story once received.
