Karen Hendricks, a Reclaim the City representative, says: “We are here because we have been fighting for public land to be used for the public good and affordable housing for more than five years.”

She says there are still pieces of vacant land not that are not being utilised for affordable housing.

“We are also calling on the City to scrap the unlawful occupations bylaw which tends to criminalise occupations. The reason why we are occupying these lands is due to the failure of the City to build affordable housing.”
