- Rondebosch Park is set to undergo significant upgrades aimed at improving infrastructure, public safety, and accessibility for the community.
- The project, part of the City of Cape Town’s initiative to revitalise public spaces, will begin with the installation of new benches and bins.
- Community involvement is encouraged, with residents invited to provide feedback throughout the revitalisation process.
A beloved green space in the heart of Rondebosch Park, is set for a significant transformation that promises to enhance the area for the community.
“Over the next few years, the park will undergo a series of upgrades designed to improve infrastructure, boost public safety and create local job opportunities” said Ward 62 councillor Mikhail Manuel.
These developments are part of a larger initiative by the City of Cape Town to revitalise public spaces across Cape Town, ensuring they remain safe, welcoming and well-maintained.
For years, Rondebosch Park has been a popular spot for families, fitness enthusiasts and dog walkers.
However, the park has faced gradual wear and tear. The planned upgrades will address these needs, with the goal of not only improving the park’s aesthetic but also making it a functional and safe space for all.
Manuel, who is overseeing the project, explains: “We want to ensure that Rondebosch Park remains a safe and welcoming space for everyone.”
Accesible
The upgrade project is set to roll out in several stages, each addressing key aspects of the park.
The first phase began with the installation of new benches and bins to replace older, broken ones on Thursday 7 October.
The aim is to make the park more accessible and enjoyable for visitors immediately.
This transformation is expected to attract more residents, particularly those who may not have access to private fitness facilities.
Manuel is also working with the City officials to secure funds for upgrading the park’s toilet facilities, a much-needed improvement that is expected to further enhance the user experience.
“We are actively working to ensure the funds for the toilet upgrades are secured as soon as possible,” he says.
As the project progresses, the City encourages residents to take part in the revitalisation process by offering feedback on the park’s developments.
