Residents in Sunnydale are warned about the temporary closure of the access/exit at Stork Street, off Kommetjie Road, for roadworks until the end of August, if all goes as planned.
Work started Monday 24 March.
“The current roadworks in the area form part of the upgrade of Kommetjie Main Road, between Capri Drive and Wood Road. So far, significant road-improvement activities are being carried out on the road verge and shoulder areas along this section of Kommetjie Main Road,” said Rob Quintas, Mayco member for urban mobility.
“The team has been busy with the relocation of earth berms and trees; the building of a new boundary wall to allow for the road widening; the relocation of electrical cables and other underground services; and the installation and upgrade of a bulk water main.
“The City has tried its best to ensure that all these activities are executed in a manner which keeps the Kommetjie Main Road carriageways unobstructed. We will continue to keep residents updated on the progress while the upgrades are underway.”
The road widening along this section of Kommetjie Road is part of the City’s Congestion Management Strategy. Once complete, the improvements will assist with alleviating traffic congestion along this busy route.
“We want to thank residents and road users for their patience and support while our teams work to complete the works as soon as possible,” said Quintas.
Residents and commuters who make use of this stretch of road are advised as follows:
• Traffic moving in both directions is affected.
• Alternative routes to access Stork Street are available via Capri Drive and Sardinia Drive from Kommetjie Main Road.
• Alternative routes from the area include Corfu Avenue and Capri Drive.
• Road closures and detour signage will be in place to direct motorists to Stork Street, or Kommetjie Main Road via the alternative access routes.
