Dozens of residents gathered at De Waal Park for an evening of song and fellowship with Christmas carols on Sunday 8 December.

Organised by Booth Memorial Hospital, the event aimed to promote the services offered at the institution.

Yvonne Wood, manager of the hospital, said the facility is run by the Salvation Army – a faith-based organisation.

“The purpose of the Christmas carols event was to create more awareness in the local community of who we are as Booth Memorial Hospital and what we do as an intermittent care facility as well as to encourage the community to support the work of The Salvation Army.”

She said the event brought people together to enjoy and sing along to traditional Christmas music by The Salvation Army brass band.

“At Christmas time we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and it was a privilege to remind our audience of the reason for the season.”

Wood explained that entertainment included a solo “O Holy Night” sung by Grace Wood and a dance item performed by Lt Desiré Dathini and her daughter Lubabalo.

“This is the first time we have hosted this event and we hope to be able to run this event annually in the future. We thank the community of Oranjezicht and surrounds for their attendance and for financial support in the form of monetary donations.”

Donations to Booth Memorial can be made to their bank account: FNB acc no 50264828623.
