Thelma Sias from Pelican Park.

Thelma Sias from Pelican Park was shocked when she returned home from a funeral on Monday 26 September and discovered that the door to her wendy house had been forced open.

“I was very upset when I found out the police of Grassy Park Police Station was on the premises and responsible for my door being forced in. The evening I went to the police station and spoke to Col Dawood Lang, Station Commander, and he said the police acted on a tip-off that I was dealing in drugs from my home. I asked him to show me the search warrant, which he could not produce,” she claims.

The door that was forced open.

When People’s Post spoke to Lang he admitted speaking to Sias and gave the assurance that a search warrant was issued.

“When the police arrived at her home in the backyard in Catbird Street, she was not at home. A family member in the front gave permission to search for alcohol and drugs. The family member refused to go in after the door was forced open and the police could see no liquor stored. We did not enter the premises,” Lang says.

According to Lang, Sias and her husband came to the police station the evening and he explained to them what happened and that he asked the family member to keep an eye on the broken door.

“I further explained the process to claim for the damages and her husband was understanding. I asked them to bring three quotes and I will gladly repair the lock and the door.

“The Monday morning she and her brother came to the station and I called my claims person to assist with the claim. They were reluctant to do that and left the station,” Lang says.

According to Lang, Sias has a dispute with the family member at the front of the property, which is none of his business.

“After we forced the door open the family member said she will only stand by the door, but we did not accept that. We saw there were no crates in the area that we could see. That is why we asked them to come see me at the police station. This was a joint operation with Community in Blue, the CPF and the police. All records were made and the search was legal,” Lang says.

Sias got the three quotes and took it to Lang at the police station.

One of the three quotes for the repair to the lock and door.

At the time of going to print, no search warrant had been submitted by Lang.
