CAPE TOWN-Anti-gang unit operations across four Western Cape communities on Thursday 23 October resulted in five firearm confiscations and six arrests as police continued efforts to remove weapons from gang-affected areas.
The coordinated raids targeted premises in Capricorn, Overcome Heights, Steenvilla Complex and Vrygrond.
The unit searched a premises in Frederick Road, Capri, where they confiscated a 9mm pistol along with 19 rounds of ammunition.
A 22-year-old man was arrested for possession of the unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
At an address in Steenvilla Complex, officers discovered a 9mm pistol without a serial number and an assortment of ammunition rounds during a premises search. Two men, aged 19 and 35, were arrested for possession of the unlicensed firearm and ammunition, highlighting the involvement of different age groups in illegal weapons possession.
In Klaasen Road, Vrygrond, anti-gang unit members acted on intelligence about an individual suspected of firearm possession.
The targeted operation led to the arrest of a 22-year-old man found in possession of a 9 mm pistol with eight rounds of ammunition.
Two separate operations in Overcome Heights yielded additional arrests and weapon recoveries.
A 39-year-old woman was arrested for illegal firearm possession when found with a .22 revolver and ammunition.
In a second operation at a premises in Mountain Road, Overcome Heights, officers arrested a 35-year-old man after discovering a
.38 Special revolver hidden in an informal dwelling.
All arrested suspects will appear in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday 27 October to face charges related to unlicensed firearm and ammunition possession.
