With the ink officially dry and the votes counted, political parties have just a few days to remove campaign posters before incurring serious penalties.
The City of Cape Town’s Deputy Mayor Eddie Andrews says all political parties are aware of this date and have been sent a reminder.“All election posters should be removed by Saturday 8 June – this includes the poster, as well as the string used to attach the poster to the lamppost.
The City will start removing election posters from Monday 10 June,” says Andrews.
Posters are allowed to be placed on lamp posts free of charge to political parties and candidates during the election period.
However, should parties fail to remove their posters, they will be billed by the City for their removal.
says Andrews.
In general, election posters must be removed within 10 days after the conclusion of the election.
The City has outlined these rules in the run-up to the election campaigning. Any party wanting to recover posters removed by the City must liaise with its Environmental Management Department officials to collect the posters.
