Painting on fresh canvas: Artist offers free classes after launching foundation

Launched in September last year, the free art programme run by the Mark Jeneker Foundation has officially been completed.

Launched in September last year, the free art programme run by the Mark Jeneker Foundation has officially been completed.

Thanks to funding received from the National Lottery, Jeneker took a tour of various communities to offer free classes to children across Mitchell’s Plain.

The classes were run by celebrated the Foundation founder and art teacher Mark Jeneker and culminated in the children exhibiting their work for parents and supporters.

The funding took two years to acquire, having completed the applications in consecutive years. It was finally granted to the foundation last year, with the first classes taking place in New Woodlands on 8 September last year. The graduation took place at West End Primary School with a representitive of the department of Arts and Culture present.

Jeneker has thanked the principal of the school, Clive Arries as well as other sponsors, Baz-Art, Humanitas, Shoprite. Dala Paints, Vorstor Masterton and Kaye, Pick n Pay, the National Lottery Commission, Dulux Paints, Akzo Nobel, Cape Pottery supplies, Butterfly art project, Classic butchery, Watercolour Art South Africa, Zeitz Mocca art Museum and Kyro Print Pty Ltd for there generous sponsorship to the project.
