Citing biblical significance, the first Kingdom Day event is expected to make history, calling on Christians of all denominations to give 30 minutes of their time on Sunday 3 March, to spread awareness of the Kingdom of Heaven and of God.

The founder of this event, evangelist Nathan van der Westhuizen, said while Nantes Amphitheatre in Athlone will serve as a central location for this act of worship, Christians are encouraged to participate wherever they may be.

“We call 3 March Kingdom Day for 30 minutes,” he said. “It is basically when we as a Christian community can spread awareness of the Kingdom through word and deed, wherever one finds oneself as a Christian, no matter what denomination.

“In the Kingdom of God there is no denomination, only he and his children, from every walk of life. What’s more, it is about the dedicated time one gives to the Kingdom of God.”

Van der Westhuizen, who describes himself as “the Son of the King”, says such acts validate the day Christ sacrificed his body for his children.

He speaks of number three in the Bible, which has special significance.

“It speaks about wholeness. It also speaks about the Trinity, about the resurrection of Christ on the third day. Also, the 30 minutes we symbolically connect to the age Jesus was when he started his ministry. We of the Christian faith can relate to the number three, and for 30 minutes we can make a difference in someone’s life and the community.”

Van der Westhuizen will host about 300 people at the Nantes from 15:00 to 18:00.

“We will spend the time in praise, worship, dance, giving, eating and sharing,” he said, “because that is the culture and these are the qualities of the Kingdom, where we share, give, bless one another, love and unite, no matter what denomination one is. The day is not about having a concert or festival, but commemorating and honouring God.”

Van der Westhuizen said he intended to cement and establish this day as a permanent annual fixture on the calendar. He said South Africa is the first country to host a formal Kingdom Day event such as this, which is open to every denomination and all people.

Those attending are encouraged to take a camping chair, blanket, picnic basket and anything they enjoy to experience the day in fellowship and enjoyment of one another’s company, a joyful outing.
