- AfriPaw NGO has introduced a pet taxi to help Vrygrond residents transport their pets to the monthly animal clinic.
- The prototype, a bicycle with a crate, was successfully tested during the June clinic, serving 704 pets.
- This initiative aims to ease the transport of animals, particularly benefiting those with mobility issues and the elderly.
Transport for four-legged companions to a monthly animal clinic in Vrygrond has just become easier with the AfriPaw taxi.
In a social media post AfriPaw, a non-government organisation (NGO), tested its pet taxi during its June clinic.
“We are thrilled to present our prototype AfriPaw Taxi, tested for the first time at our June Pet Clinic,” the post read.
“We welcomed 704 pets to the clinic and a handful of lucky Vrygrond pets got to test the taxi for the first time.”
The pet taxi consists of a bicycle with a crate on wheels attached to the back.

Afri Paw director Anel Wesson commented that their vision was to provide for animals’ needs while protecting them from illness and disease.
The prototype was tested to ensure everything ran smoothly to in future add more pet taxis.
Not everyone qualifies for the use of the taxi. However, according to Wesson, there has to be special requirements, such as residents with mobility issues.
Pet clinic
Meanwhile, Ward 45 councillor Mandy Marr tells the People’s Post that the pet taxi is a great initiative, assisting residents and their pets.
“AfriPaw has a pet clinic every month where everyone brings their pets along in Vrygrond,” says Marr.
“Many people place their pets in crates or have ropes tied around them to the venue, so with a pet taxi it would become easier to transport the animals.”
Marr added that the pet taxi would be especially beneficial to the elderly, who perhaps cannot carry or transport their animals.
“The pet taxi helps to transport sick or injured animals, it also picks up pets that belong to the elderly in the community so it’s a wonderful initiative.”
