A new rehabilitation hospital in the heart of Newlands is expected to improve recovery outcomes for patients across Cape Town. It offers specialised care in a purpose-built space that merges clinical expertise with performance science.

The Intercare Newlands Physical Rehabilitation Hospital, which opened officially this month, is the result of a partnership between private health-care provider Intercare and the Sports Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA).

The facility is located on the fifth floor of SSISA’s complex and is now fully operational and open to referrals.

“We’ve combined two strengths, clinical rehabilitation and human performance, to offer an integrated approach to healing,” said Dr Hendrik Hanekom, CEO of Intercare.

The hospital caters for people recovering from strokes, spinal-cord injuries, post-surgical trauma and chronic conditions.

With 26 beds and access to radiology, pathology and on-site therapy spaces, it’s designed for both acute and sub-acute needs.

The care team includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, dietitians, and a resident medical doctor.

A case manager and social worker work to ensure continuity and emotional support throughout the patient’s journey.

“Referrals are open and further information is available via www.intercare.co.za or 012 368 8889.
