Backstreet United Netball Club hosted a tournament for local clubs in Kewtown on Youth Day, Friday 16 June.
Established in 2011, the club celebrated 12 years since its inception. The club caters to youths aged 16 to 32.
The tournament took place at the Backstreet home grounds in Blocks one and thee.
A total of five teams participated in the tournament and a total of 10 players were allowed per team of 10.
A first prize of R1 000 was offered, with R500 for the runners-up. Trophies were also awarded for the best shooter, best centre, best defender and third place overall. The entire tournament was officiated by graded umpires.
“Our motivation is looking forward in life with the young children and keeping them from the streets, enabling them to go further in life,” says club chair Adrian Grobbelaar.
This is the first in a string of events planned for the club. Organisers say the tournament was a success, with 50 people reaching out.
