Mothers celebrated at luncheon in Tafelsig, Cape Town

Mother’s Day is the opportune time to celebrate all that the maternal figures do for us. But not all these efforts are recognised.

For a group of 150 mothers from the Tafelsig area, an annual event by a local organisation is a chance to relax and unwind from their daily lives.

The mothers were treated to a Mother’s Day event on Saturday 13 May, hosted by the Golden Ladies – a collective of community workers in the surrounding community, doing various outreach programmes.

Ursula Peters says the group of ladies were each tasked with identifying mothers from their working area to attend the event.

“I would love to have invited all mothers, but we had a criteria in place. This event is for mothers who are struggling, broken mothers. My heartbeat is for these mothers and the community,” she says.

The mothers were encouraged to forget their many responsibilities and enjoy their spoils.

“Do you know the value of a mother? As mothers, we fill so many spots. We are not perfect as we stand here, but that does not keep us behind,” said Peters at the event.

The programme included testimony from Prison Ministries and entertainment by local band, Double Edge Outreach Group.

“They both came forward wanting to assist. Their hearts are also in the community to make a difference. The band is also an organisation striving to make a difference through music,” she says.

The mothers were treated to a lunch and cake and tea.
