There is more to life than sitting on street corners and doing drugs. This was the key message members of Tern Entertainment and Development Projects (EDP) tried to bring across during their community outreach held in Bo-Kaap recently.
The non-profit company (NPC) entertained a group of young people in Yusuf Drive Park on Saturday 13 January.
The organisation consists of rappers, singers, a dance group, and a motivational speaker and their mission is to visit various communities around Cape Town to entertain and empower the youth.
The organisation also has contracts with local production companies that make it possible for young people to feature in local films.
On Saturday the young people were entertained by artists which included Bomblife, Marlin Baker, aspiring rapper Jody Albrecht and singer Chanique Mansoor among other.
Tasneem Isaacs, founder of the NPC, said: “We decided to have the event in Bo-Kaap because youth in the area are using drugs, so we are trying to motivate them. We have also prepared a warm meal and some cooldrinks for the kids here.”
Albrecht said: “Since joining the organisation I can now share my music with others. I want to motivate the youth to do their schoolwork because education is important.”
Mansoor (22) explains that her singing career started at the age of 16.
She encouraged the youth to keep pursuing their dreams.
Edwin Wessels, spokesperson for the organisation said they are planning on visiting various schools this year to scout for new talent and also to motivate the youth.
