Children’s rights organisation Molo Songololo has been promoting the protection and rights of children for the past 46 years.

Now the Observatory-based organisation needs funds to continue this valuable service.

Patric Solomon, managing director of the organisation, says they have a R300 000 shortfall for the next three months.

“Molo Songololo needs funds to cover basic operational expenses to continue our work with child victims of sexual violence who need counselling, therapy, empowerment and support services.

“We have over 70 children currently that need our services. We need funds to cover salary shortfall and expenses to get to children, do home visits, school visits, and support children at courts, health screenings, and regular monitoring.”

Solomon says they are in desperate need of donations.

“The immediate need now is cash donations for salary shortfalls and operational costs. People, businesses and groups can help by making donations, however small. Commit to making a small monthly cash donation, use a birthday or event to raise funds for Molo Songololo. We also call on all those past beneficiaries who can support, to donate.”

He says donations can also be in the form of computers, cellphones, photocopy paper, petrol, servicing of vehicles, renovation of the main office, among others.

He explains that for the past four decades the organisation has been hard at work to advance the rights, care, protection and participation of children.

These are done through awareness, education, training, advocacy, and the provision of support services.

These services include social support, assessments, counselling, therapeutic, empowerment, and ongoing support services for victims of sexual abuse and sexual exploitation, and those at risk.

They have satellite offices in Atlantis, Delft and Beaufort West.

Molo Songololo provides a crucial service to children in need of care and protection, the impact of which helps children to thrive and break the silence and cycle of violence against children.

Solomon says through their Child and Youth Empowerment programme they motivate and empower the youth on human rights, and especially the rights of the child.

“We develop children’s life-skills, leadership skills, social awareness and promote their participation in decision-making processes.”

According to Solomon, they also focus on caregivers through their Counselling and Therapeutic Services for Children and Parents programme.

“We conduct one-on-one and group therapeutic and empowerment sessions with children and their caregivers. We engage local community members to increase support for child victims and their caregivers.”

Donations can be made to FNB, account number 500 8060 1344.
