For the duration of the school holidays, the Mitchell’s Plain Town Centre library has kept children occupied with an interactive, jam-packed and informative programme.
With safety talks and arts and crafts, the programme offered the children a holistic and fun day, also offering parents an opportunity to assist and engage with various stakeholders.
Anelisa Qina, Children’s Librarian says they will continue to encourage parents to join them in their programmes.
“We started every session with a safety talk and tips for the children. We then also had movies and demonstrations, arts and crafts, games and other age-appropriate activities,” she says.
They also arranged a visit to the children’s court, situated at the Mitchell’s Plain courts.
“We want to create a safe space for the children, a haven emphasising that they can escape their circumstances. We show the children they can be what they want to be, so they can reach the shooting stars,” says Qina.
The programme was a great success, with around 50 children attending daily.
