Subcouncil 12 has acknowledged two learners from two schools in the subcouncil who received certificates of acknowledgement for participating in provincial sports during the September school holidays.
Jonoah Carelse is a Grade 6 learner at AZ Berman Primary in Beacon Valley. He was selected to be play in the Western Province u-12 Rugby team. The learners for this team were selected from 35 schools, with only two schools in Mitchell’s Plain selected.
Yaseen Peterson from Beacon Hill high was acknowledged for participating in the South Africa School Combined Football Associations Festival (SASCFA) in KwaZulu Natal (KZN). Yaseen was one of the 18 players selected to the national team.
“In October, we acknowledge the great work done by the (teachers). I want to thank the (teachers) from Beacon Hill High and AZ Berman Primary for your support and efforts to ensure that we offer learners extra activities to fly the flag high of Mitchell’s Plain.
“To all schools in Mitchell’s Plain Subcouncil 12 thank you for your hard work and investing in our children of Mitchell’s Plain,” says subcouncil chair, Solomon Philander.
“As the subcouncil we will continue to acknowledge the positive progress in our community as we must amplify the positives. We believe that children or youth will only change the negative narrative when they have access to opportunity that can be used.
“The youth has proven to the themselves and the community that hard work and effort pays off. Having to work hard toward qualifying to be part of the team.”
