From filling a gap in the health sector, to becoming a leading specialist facility, Mitchell’s Plain District Hospital is making strides to continue bettering its facility.
Notably, adding a pediatric triage among other specialist functions, the hospital caters to the greater Mitchell’s Plain area and areas such as neighbouring Philippi, Samora Machel and others.
The hospital has, over the past few years, increased its bed capacity from 290 at the opening, to close to 400, treating around 4500 emergency trauma cases per month.
On Friday 14 April, hospital staff past and present were invited to the kick-off of the year-long celebrations.
These events will include a gala black-tie dinner and karaoke.
Evan Swart, hospital chief executive officer (CEO) says: “I am proud to be part of a team that is constantly finding innovative ways to improve healthcare services, has a good culture, and is building and strengthening relationships with the community for the benefit of improving our services. I am looking forward to improving healthcare services for the next ten years and supporting the team in finding ways to decrease the service pressure and burden of disease in the community.”
Construction of the facility started in 2010, with the building officially commissioned in 2013.
