Two sisters who went missing after being last seen at Muizenberg Library more than a month ago were reportedly found in Johannesburg last week.
Vanessa and Kimberley Mubaiwa from Capricorn went missing on Friday 27 May after they allegedly told their parents they would be working on a school project.
The girls were last seen leaving the library.
In a Facebook video on Wednesday 29 June a woman claimed the girls had been found in Johannesburg, and had left Cape Town of their own accord.
The girls’ father, Douglas, confirmed the sisters had been found. “Their mother has left for Johannesburg.”
On Thursday 30 June, Muizenberg police spokesperson Capt Stephen Knapp said the investigating officer was on his way to Johannesburg to verify the identities of the girls.
“The investigating officer has gone to Johannesburg to confirm the identities of the girls, and a media statement will be sent out once this has been done.”
Meanwhile Mymoena Scholtz, founder of the Where Rainbows Meet Foundation and an acquaintance of the family, said she was grateful the sisters were found unharmed.
“I am appealing to all youth who run away from home that we have many social workers, and your schools have social workers and counsellors.
“Your communities have organisations that can assist you. Please think of what you put your parents through; you have a whole society panicking and restless fearing the worse.
“Please be considerate and try and deal with your problems by sharing. That may just improve your situation at home or at school. Even if you are being bullied, speak up.
“We can help; there are a lot of good people out there. Human trafficking is real and we just want what is best for you.”
