The body of a man reported missing after taking an Uber to Muizenberg was found washed up at Sunrise Beach on Monday 16 May.
According to Tazneem Mononoke, a family member of Muzzamiel Hoosain, the 24-year-old was last seen on Friday 13 May.
In an urgent public plea, made on social media on Friday 13 May, she asked for assistance in finding Hoosain.
“Dear Muizenbergers, a family member, Muzzamiel Hoosain, took an Uber to Muizenberg last night (13 May) and got off at Royal Road. He did not return home.
“His bag with personal belongings and cellphone were found this morning by a walker.
“Please, any information can help.”
According to Mononoke, Hoosain’s bag was found on Sunrise Beach while his phone showed his last location to be in Royal Road.
Muizenberg Police Station commander Col Vassie Naidoo said the body of an unidentified man washed up at Sunrise Beach on Monday 16 May.
“Muizenberg police can confirm that the unknown body of a man washed up at Sunrise beach on Monday 16 May. The cause of death is unknown at this stage and an inquest docket has been opened for further investigation.”
He added that the body was later positively identified to be that of Hoosain.
“The body was identified as Muzzamil Hoosain.
A post mortem will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.”
