Philippi police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following an accident along Goven Mbeki drive.
On Friday 16 September, at 10:00, police were called to the scene where a 59-year-old woman was killed in an accident.
Emergency medical workers attended to the woman, who later died at the scene, says Philippi police spokesperson, Capt Lance Goliath.
“The driver of the vehicle that allegedly caused the accident was a 34-year-old man. He was arrested at the crime scene.”
In a video taken at the scene, the victim was walking on the shoulder of the road and was found in the yellow lane near a bus stop.
The vehicle, a Grey Volkswagen came to rest on the pavement, crashing into a light pole.
The alleged driver, in the video is wearing what appears to be an SANDF uniform and appears to be drunk.
No further details were available at the time of going to print.
The man has since appeared in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court.
