Man running with .44 Magnum arrested during crime prevention patrol in Mitchell’s Plain

On Sunday 18 February, while City police officers were conducting crime prevention patrols in Mitchell’s Plain they received information from the community about a suspect running in Samantha Street with a firearm in his hand.


On Sunday 18 February, while City police officers were conducting crime prevention patrols in Mitchell’s Plain they received information from the community about a suspect running in Samantha Street with a firearm in his hand.

Officers immediately responded to Samantha Street.

After receiving further information that the suspect was travelling in a white vehicle on Morgenster Road, officers managed to stop the vehicle on the corners of AZ Berman Drive and Morgenster Road.

In the car, officers found the suspect in possession of a .44 heavy calibre revolver loaded with five hollow point rounds.

The serial number was still intact.

Another twelve .44 Magnum rounds and one empty cartridge were found in the suspect’s possession.

The 59-year-old man was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and detained at Lentegeur Police Station.
