The family and friends of Bradwyn Adendorf (20) – who was stabbed to death at a street party – filled the Simon’s Town courtroom during the bail application of a man suspected of the murder.

On Thursday 29 September, Nathaniel Petersen, who stands accused of murder, abandoned his bail application.

The court heard that post mortem results were still outstanding.

Magistrate Francios Van Eeden postponed the case to Monday 3 November.

Outside court, holding posters with “No bail” and “We stand for Bradwyn” the victim’s mother Annette Overmeyer said she was happy that the accused remained in jail.

“My eldest son Bradwyn was my best friend.

“He was an amazing person and he didn’t like trouble. He would avoid trouble in any way he could and he would just walk away if there was trouble.”

Recalling the day they received the devastating news, Overmeyer said the last time she spoke to Bradwyn he told her that he would be home before midnight.

“On the day of 31 July he was at a street bash in Ocean View.

“He grew up in the area and he knew a lot of people. It was around 21:00 and I sent him a message and he said that he was in Lapland and that he would be home before midnight.

“Around 01:30 one of my friends came and knocked on our door and our gate and she called my husband and I.

“He said; ‘Your son has been stabbed.’

“When we got to the scene he was already gone. It’s actually very heartbreaking,” she said tearfully.

“He was a very good person.”

The traumatised mom added that she never knew the accused but believed that he was known to her son.

“He wasn’t friends with him but he was friends with his girlfriend. Something went wrong there because he (Bradwyn) was apparently just speaking to her when the guy came and stabbed him.”

She firmly opposed bail and hoped that he remained behind bars.

“What they do is threaten people and then the witnesses don’t want to talk or they get killed.”

Adendorf’s aunt could not hold back the tears as she described her nephew.

“This has now opened up everything, I thought I am over it.”

Jolene Klein said her nephew was not a gangster and that she wanted answers on why he was murdered.

“We were very close and I feel so sad. My thing is that he was not a gangster.

“I just want to know why this guy stabbed him because if Bradwyn would argue with friends he would walk away.

“I just want justice for Bradwyn because we never going to see him again.”
