Local law firm draws up free wills for residents in Tafelsig

Despite challenges, more than 130 locals have been assisted with free wills.

Despite challenges, more than 130 locals have been assisted with free wills.

Serve the Needy in partnership with Pelican Heights-based SP Attorneys, assisted 75 people with free wills on the second event on Thursday 20 July.

The first event was held on Tuesday 20 June, with more than 60 people assisted.

Albert Solomons, chair of Serve the Needy, says the drive was in response to the great need of seniors in the Tafelsig area.

“We received a lot of complaints from seniors that they did not have a will in place. We then started looking around for assistance. SP Attorneys then came on board to assist,” he says.

The attorneys were also on hand to answer any questions about the process of wills.

Common questions were around estates of deceased persons, property transfers, executors, debt and marriage or divorce when married in community of property.

Although held at the New Apostolic Church in Kilimanjaro Street, Tafelsig, the initiative was open to all residents.

Serve the Needy is based in the basement of this church and church leadership granted them the use of the church hall to facilitate the event.

Due to load shedding on the day, a few persons were not assisted.

Another initiative will be on Thursday 10 August, at the church from 10:30.

All are welcome.
