The Lions Club of Mitchell’s Plain has re-elected Jean Jacobs to serve a second term as club president.
Jacobs, who joined the club in 2017, was officially re-inaugurated on Saturday 2 July at a gala event in Lotus River.
“I joined the world’s largest service, Lions Clubs International in 2017, after being invited to the Charter dinner of the Lions Club of Mitchell’s Plain. Sitting in that room, my body, mind and spirit was arrested as I heard about the great service these like-minded people do in their communities,” says Jacobs.
“Fast track to 2021 when the Lions Club of Mitchell’s Plain voted me in as president for the fiscal year 2021-22. We can reflect on a year where our Club has continued to serve our communities to alleviate the ongoing plight of hunger.
“We have been privileged to continue great projects such as our Baby Box project to MOU’s (maternity obstetric unit) and Mitchell’s Plain District hospital – where we deliver a ‘starter pack of baby necessities’ to Mom’s in need.”
Another of the club’s recent activities was the sight screening at primary school level.
“I am humbled that my club saw it fit to vote me into the role of president again. We look forward to another year of service within our communities and living up to the saying ‘where there’s a need, there’s a Lion’,” she says. “My desire for our club in this new fiscal year is not that we do service for recognition, but instead, service worthy of recognition.”
She continues: “There is no better reward than giving back to someone who cannot do anything for you in return. I would encourage anyone who has a heart beat to give back to contact us, whether to volunteer, sign up as a member or to donate.”
